Book of the week; Two from a teapot

Two from a teapot written and illustrated by Racey Helps.
Few mice live in Honey Dell, but two do - Miss Tippee and Miss Toppee. This is the tale of how Miss Tippee and Miss Toppee find a permanent home in a teapot.

Each time I look at the cover of this pretty book I think about;

An arrangement of flowers on a red check tablecloth ~

~ Cupcakes ~

~ and a nice cup of tea from a pretty teapot ~

This 'Dainty Teas' postcard is also by Racy Helps.

Two more pictures from Two from a teapot - enjoy!

Do you drink tea and eat cakes when you read? I do it all the time!

I love the front cover of the book, that deserves to be photocopied and framed.
I've been over to your website Barbara, I was looking for the Ladybird books and I didn't know that they were ever made in a large format. Thanks for all the information about them and for the info on the dumpy books.

  4. Ok, this is absolutely one of my favorites that you've shown. Look at these adorable pictures. And anything with teapot has to be a fun read. I don't eat or drink when I read because I don't like to interrupt my reading. But there's nothing I enjoy more than a nice cup of tea and a cake or biscuit with it. So relaxing and refreshing.

I’ve only just noticed the teapot on the front of the book, and the one on the postcard is the same – except that the ‘door’ is in a different place. I suppose it had to be changed because it would have been pretty difficult carrying the ‘dainty teas’ down a ladder!

Thanks for visiting my website, I’m glad you found something useful.
I’ve got another ‘Ladybird post’ ready to go on the blog in a few days. Homes and Antiques magazine did a really interesting article about them, and have given me permission to share it. They were also kind enough to include a link to my website at the end of the article. Do you get Homes and Antiques magazine in Australia? It used to be called the BBC homes and antiques magazine, but they don’t use the BBC bit any more.

  6. I agree with Donna - this is one of the loveliest posts you've done! These illustrations are beautiful - the detail in them is just gorgeous and they are so finely and delicately done. I think I have a permanent cup of tea at my elbow when I read. I'd nibble on cakes all the while if I could too (I have a real sweet tooth) but I try not to have them in the house most of the time to avoid the temptation!

  7. The story sounds somewhat familiar... so I don't know if I've read this at some point during my childhood or not.

I love those illustrations though... especially of the cats!

Tea and cakes? I don't like tea... I love cakes but I'm not supposed to eat them! (They make me ill).

  8. I love to drink tea while reading! It is so relaxing and cozy. I just adored this post and thought it was great to see what you are thinking about while looking at the cover of this book. I think the cover is fascinating and it looks like a book I would enjoy. The other illustrations are so well done. I always enjoyed stories involving mice as a child. :)

Hello Donna, It was a really easy post to do. As soon as I looked at the cover the pictures to accompany it sort of appeared in my mind – it was then just a question of taking them! It’s not always that easy, I sometimes agonise over what I’m going to say/do for days, but this one was a pleasure. I'm so glad you liked it.

Thank you Sharon. Like I said to Donna it was one of the easiest – so maybe there is a lesson in that. My sweet tooth is my downfall too. A cup of tea is just not the same without a cake or a biscuit. I used to do a lot of running so eating cake was not a problem, but it is now!

Maybe you had a copy of it as a child, do the pictures look familiar? Tea, and cakes are my ‘guilty’ pleasures. I don’t like coffee or cola or any fizzy drinks, just good old-fashioned tea. How horrid that something you love makes you ill, that’s so unfair!

Hello fellow tea drinker! A cup of tea and a good book – what more could you ask? There are lots of children’s books featuring mice, so I might do a post on them one day. Thanks for calling in and leaving a comment.

  13. Wonderful pictures here. I laughed when I got to the big cat holding the small teapot! I take coffee when I read (coffee and an occasional slice of peanut cake). I don't think coffee will be substituted for anything else, but I do enjoy rose tea. Iced rose oolong tea is divine!

Iced rose oolong tea sounds delightful, such a romantic name. Peanut cake also sounds good – must be time for tea! I was just over on your blog leaving a comment when an email arrived telling me you had left a comment on my blog, how strange.

Thank you for coming to visit my blog! I have been looking around yours too. I love children's literature and illustrations, so this is right up my alley.
What a very sweet little book this is! The illustrations are very much in the same style as Beatrix Potter, aren't they?

Adorable and a wonderful reason to eat cakes! Notice I said cakes plural.

  24. I remember my grandmother reading this book to me 60 years ago vividly.
She had so many Beatrix Potter books, I thought that it was one of hers, and was thrilled to stumble on it here! Imagine...an old cowboy searching for this book...but, it brings back memories of how much I owe an amazing grandma.
