Adventure downstream written & illustrated by Rosalie K Fry

I visited an antiques fair yesterday and was lucky enough to find this copy of Adventure downstream written and illustrated by Rosalie K Fry.

I’ve only seen two copies in the last twenty years and both have sold really quickly. This copy was listed today (Sunday) and sold within hours. The buyer was obviously extremely happy and sent this email;

I am so excited about this, I can hardly speak!!  I have been looking for this book for 50 years!

It could be some time before another copy turns up so I thought I would share a couple of the illustrations with you. Enjoy!

I can really appreciate the buyers excitement because last week I found a book I’ve been trying to find (for my own collection) for a very long time.  More of that tomorrow...

  1. Just too cute. And now, many children won't be holding these darling books in their hands and seeing the fine pictures, what with e-books everywhere.

  2. Looks like a beautiful book - how lovely that the person who was looking for it was eventually able to buy it from you!

    I know what you mean but publishers are still producing beautiful children’s books – so I hope ‘real’ books and e-books can survive side by side.

    Yes, it made my day. I love searching out 'old' books and am happy to visit auctions, fairs, school sales, flea markets, garage sales and anywhere else that books might be lurking. I often have to get up really early and get home really late, but it's worth all of it when I find something I've been trying to find for ages either for myself or for a customer.

    Hello Simon, I will be sure to let you know if I find another copy, but it could be quite some time!
    I'm glad you called in as it reminded me to pay another visit to your lovely blog. I'm on my way there now.

  7. If you find yet another copy I would love to buy it, too. It was a much-loved book that I had as a child and I credit it with making me a passionate sailor.
