The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Sherborne this morning as part of their Royal Jubilee tour. They arrived by train at Sherborne Station and then went by car to Sherborne Abbey where a Mad Hatter's Tea Party was awaiting them. The weather just prior to their arrival was atrocious, but the crowds were obviously in a mood to celebrate, and no amount of rain was going to dampen their spirits.
Most people were suitably attired and more than happy to wait in the rain

ReplyDeleteSadly not we were just part of the crowd. But we enjoyed it immensely. It was such a lovely friendly atmosphere. Masses of police and security all over the place but we were still able to get close enough to see everything that was going on.

ReplyDeleteIt was a brilliant choice of the outfit. The Queen is a tiny lady, but the pink was easy to spot in a crowd. There were two ladies in waiting one in mauve and the other in lemon but they just blended into the background.

ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'll ever be able to meet or watch the Queen of England in this lifetime. The pictures are priceless, and your funny captions even priceless-er! (I love the shade of her suit. I hear it's a really popular colour this season.) And a Mad Hatter's Tea Party sounds like a grand affair. I wonder if there'd be chatters going off at rifle-speed ...

We had so much fun and even exchanged names and address with other people in the crowd so that we could share pictures. It’s lovely when something as simple as a visit from the Queen brings people together. I hope you do have a chance to meet or watch the Queen, never say never – it’s impossible to know what’s just around the corner.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna, Sherborne is a beautiful town famous for its historic buildings, including the abbey, a monor house, the ruins of a 12th century fortified place known as the ‘old castle’ and the ‘new’ 16th century mansion, known as Sherborne Castle. Much of the old town is built from ochre-coloured ham stone and is very picturesque. The Queen looked perfect in pink, and even though she is very tiny she really stood out over everyone else there.

There are lots of pretty places in Dorset, but Sherborne is one of the best. If you come to England on holiday let me know, and I will send you a list of ‘must see’ places. ReplyDeleteNot sure how I missed this post but I loved it. The Queen has aged so gracefuly and she is wearing the perfect shade of pink. Everyone looks so happy. You got some amazing photos. Wish I could have been there.
