Number 186 of a Limited edition of 1,030 numbered copies signed by Arthur Rackham of which 1000, numbered 1-1000, were for sale in Great Britain, Ireland and the Colonies; and thirty copies numbered 1001 - 1030 for presentation. Published by William Heinemann in 1913.

These illustrations are a small selection
from the 44 superb colour plates in the Arthur Rackham Book of Pictures. Each plate is mounted
on thick card behind a descriptive tissue guard. There are also 10 black-and-white
illustrations. All the plates are in superb clean condition, free from creasing
and tears.

Barbara! Arthur Rackham is one of my all-time favorites! Thank you for this treat and feast for the eyes before you leave us. I too will be on a blog break FINALLY; I had mentioned that a while back without being sure of my schedule, but I just posted my last post for a while too.

ReplyDeleteBarbara, I can only drool - and dream! A genuine, limited edition (when that actually meant something) signed(!) copy of an Arthur Rackham volume... Oh, mighty sigh! I think if I ever held something like that, I would - for real - cry!

My God, how beautiful (even if slightly creepy) these illustrations are. And so that's how a Leviathan looks like. I'm with Jess, thank you for opening my world a bit more, too. Have a good break and see you in July!

ReplyDeleteHis work never becomes stale and always leaves me feeling in awe of his incredible imagination and talent. Arthur Rackham was one of the first artists I tried to emulate when I was young - a lot of my love of fairytale illustrations comes from him. How wonderful that you have this treasure in your possession Barbara - and how can you bear to part with it!!! (I know we all have to bring in the pennies - in this case a well deserved pile of them!) I would love to own this or even just have the opportunity to page through it!
