Filming Far from the Madding Crowd in Sherborne, Dorset.

As some of you may already know Terry (my hubby) is a keen photographer. Last week, he was in Sherborne photographing the filming of Far From the Madding crowd. Now that the ‘photos have appeared in the local paper and on his blog, he is happy for me to share them.  I think they are amazing, hope you enjoy them.
Filming Far from the Madding Crowd
The filming of some of the scenes from a new film production of Far from the Madding Crowd (Thomas Hardy’s fourth novel and his first major literary success) were taking place outside Sherborne Abbey last week. The abbey grounds were transformed into a Victorian market.  Can you spot the mobile phone?

You may remember the abbey looking rather different during The Queen's visit to Sherborne last year (view post here)

  1. I SEE THE MOBILE! That is hilarious and quite interesting to catch a glimpse of the past with the wave of the future (well, for them it would be the future!)

Barbara, how thrilling to see such a beautiful set so close to where you are. My husband and I love everything British and devour any film we can located in England and British made.

I will look at your husband's blog! Anita

  2. A Victorian on his mobile! That's pretty funny. What wonderful photographs your husband takes. I always enjoy them so much. And I will be looking forward to seeing Far From the Madding Crowd when its is shown in the states. Hardy was one of my favorites when I was a teenager.

    1. Hello Alex, I don’t think that scene will make it into the film! Thank you for your comment about the photos, I agree Terry is an excellent photographer. I don’t often get to use his pictures on my blog but when I do I realise I need to try harder. I’m too impatient to learn how to use a camera I just want to point at something and end up with a wonderful photograph – the trouble is it doesn’t really work like that. Thanks for calling in.

  8. What wonderful photos. Your hubby is very talented indeed. I saw the cell phone, very funny. I'm pleased they are making a film of Far From The Madding Crowd again. I loved the one with Julie Christie but it is now dated. Who is in this adaptation? I look forward to watching it as the pictures look intriquing.

    1. Hello Darleen, I understand Carey Mulligan (Great Gatsby) is to play Bathsheba Everdeen. Tom Sturridge (On the Road) will be her Sergeant Troy, and Michael Sheen, will portray Mr. Boldwood.
Terry asked me to thank you for your kind words & thank you also for calling in.

  9. These photos are so fabulous! The lighting and coloring is just perfect and the mood and tone really come through. I loved seeing the area transformed! It was fun looking for the phone- and finding it. It does seem like part of a story about time traveling. :) Looks like an interesting film. Thanks for sharing your husband's talent with us.
