Technical Hitch

Today I would like to share this poem penned by my cousin John. I feel his pain, but it still makes me smile.

Technical Hitch

My computer had “probs” which caused me some sobs
I do feel abashed! The darn thing it crashed
It wouldn’t even start so no chance of restore
Definitely didn’t work since it hit the floor
Seems it had taken a really hard hit
Huh! Certainly did when I rebooted it!
I had to admit it was definitely bust
And having it repaired was an absolute must
So I sent it off in hope it could be fixed
Yet my emotions, strangely, were really quite mixed
Felt like a friend had just passed away
What could I do to fill up my day?
What occupation could I possibly seek?
To fill up my days for over a week?
I got really bored and moped round the house
Hugging the keyboard and fondling the mouse
(It was all my fault I felt such a louse!)
Then at last the phone call that said it was ready
Oh! the excitement, ’twas really quite heady
Hey! Now it is back on my desk and I’m fit to bust
Do you know those wizards even removed all the dust!
J A Flitney

I so know how that feels!  Have you ever been in the same situation?

John won first prize in the 'name this blog competition'. Thanks John I'm loving the new name.

Second prize went to Yvonne at Winter Moon and here is Yvonne's cat Nala sharing some book love.
Nala & Nesta the Little Witch

The highly commended prize went to the ever lovely Willie. Willie doesn't have a blog (as far as I know) so I can’t share a link, but I can share this clever little ditty he sent over the other day. My mistake – Willie does have a blog, and you will find it here.

 Is this clever....or what!

I halve a spelling chequer,
it came with my pea sea,
it plainly marques four my revue,
miss steaks eye kin knot sea.

Eye strike a quay and type a word,
and weight four it two say,
weather eye am wrong oar write,
it shows me strait a weigh.

As soon as a mist ache is maid,
it nose bee fore two long,
and eye can put the error rite,
it’s rare lea ever wrong.

Eye have run this poem threw it,
l am shore your pleased to no,
it’s letter perfect awl the weigh,
my chequer tolled me sew.

I was wondering what to do with all the empty shelf space now that March House Books is closed, but then I found these great little boxes at H&M

The only problem with lots of boxes is remembering what’s in them but these free printable tags, solved the problem.

I've still got a little sorting to do, but I think you will agree this looks better than empty shelves,

and I still have lots of books so all is well in my world.  I hope all is well in your world.

I received no financial compensation for writing this post and have no material connection to the brands or products mentioned.

  1. HeHe! Amazing! Love that poem by cousin John.....! :).
And, no l have never been in that position, l have a very
clever friend, Richard, who looks after my PC. He has me
on 'Team Viewer', so, anything new, or needs doing, he does
it from home...He does'nt tell me much, he says l could be
dangerous, with to much knowledge on the internet! :).
HeHe! My daughter feels the same way....!

    And...I~DO~HAVE~A~BLOG..........It's a one off...!
When l was given my original PC, it was 10~12yrs old.
Ally..(Richards sister, and went to school with my daughter).
    said.."Willie, you must have a Blog". "Blog...Blog"?
So she suggested, an interview...about my past etc..She said
to get a few photos, l then asked about music, so Richard sorted
    that out! So after some 4hrs l had a Blog....The Profile..I managed
to do myself...Clever me...! :). That was back in 2008. A lot of ladies
have nagged me over the years, to actually start one...
But! No! l won't. If l did, l'd be on it Morning, noon and night! So l just
enjoy everyone else's. And, made a lot of nice friends along the way..
    And...Pussy~cats of course! =(^..^)= .

MY Blog....It's free of course, no charge.....! :>).

    1. Oh Willie of course you have a blog! I visited it once before, as I wrote that line I was thinking “I’m sure Willie has a blog” but my brain refused to help me out. I will add the link to the post right away.
John will be thrilled to read your comment, thank you.
I wish I had a ‘Richard’ in fact. I think everyone should have one. :-) xx

  3. Oh Barbara! HOW FUN! Yes, I think all of us have been there at some point, and it truly feels as if an appendage was amputated, or at least put out of commission! I actually CRIED when my older computer crashed, but my husband was kind enough to go out and get me my new laptop. Oh what would any one of us do without this connection to the world?

    1. Hi Anita, I would be lost. I love being able to keep in touch with friends (like you) and would be devastated if I lost that link. Have a wonderful day. xx

  4. For Willie.
little Willie in the best of sashes,
fell in the fire and burnt to ashes,
Soon the room grew very chilly.
For no-one likes to poke poor Willie. Etta 1918: be well, agman

  5. Loving those poems though I too feel John' s pain as like most of us I've also been there, had the computer crash on me.

Great boxes though Mr T will surely be cursing you and indeed anyone else who gives me any more 'storage solutions' as I like to call them. I mean lets face it I probably don't need any more boxes (actually there is no probably about it, I DON'T need any more boxes) but extra storage never comes in wrong.

    1. Hi Tracy, I’m really pleased with my storage solutions (I like that term). The only problem is they are mostly full of air. I didn’t think further than putting something on the shelves now I need to look for something to fill them with!!

  6. I pretty sure we can all relate to the first poem, but the second... that had me giggling! The English language is so wonderfully schizophrenic!

    1. Hi Bish, you are not wrong! Schizophrenic sums it up perfectly. Thanks for making me laugh.

  7. Fun poems and I like the cat picture. Your boxes look wonderful sitting on the shelf with their nifty tags--a great way to keep tidy. I wouldn't be in any hurry to fill them. If you're anything like me, little piles of stuff accumulate rather quickly. If company's coming you'll be all set, you can toss your piles into boxes for a quick clean-up!

    1. Hi Marcia, you as so right about stuff accumulating quickly. Part of me wants to fill the boxes immediately, but another more sensible part is telling me to slow down. Our Australian family are coming to stay for six weeks over the Christmas/New Year period, and I know we are going to be struggling for space so these little boxes may well prove invaluable.

  8. Glad to hear everything is going well in your world. Sadly, I could relate to the poem about the broken computer. My laptop crashed and was dead all summer. Although I lost some photos and at least a few documents I hadn't backed up, it was mostly just frustrating not having the freedom of the laptop. Finally, after a little over 2 months we got the laptop back two weeks ago. So nice to sit on the couch and do some computer work. :) Definitely tough when they are broken!

    Your shelves look lovely. :)

    1. Hi Stephanie, that was bad luck, especially the loss of the photographs and documents. I don’t have a laptop, but I enjoy using my tablet in the evenings – it’s so much more relaxing than sitting behind a desk. Pleased you are up and running again. xx

  9. I love both poems!! The boxes look great, what a good idea. I may have to do something like that as well. I have limited storage space in my house in Spain.

I can recommend the H&M boxes - but I don't know how expensive shipping would be. Barbara x

  12. Love the new name Barbara and the poems. I see you have 4 very full shelves of Enid Blyton by the looks of it but also notice a few sneaky more below. I am sure there are many more of these somewhere in your house.

Have you come to the point yet that you don't know what to do? I'm sure someone with your imagination will never wonder what to do and make sure you take the time to sit and relax too.

    1. Hi Anne Marie, I just enjoyed a super trip to The Isle of Man via your blog, thank you for that.
I might have a few more books (shelves) dotted around the house, but I don’t like to boast! :-)
I’ve had no problem filling my time I'm reading more, walking more, taking the time to chat to friends and neighbours and generally enjoying life. I’m sure I’ve told you the family are coming over from Australia for Christmas. They will be with us for six weeks, so I need to prepare for that. Terry and I are really excited to be sharing a Christmas with them. Lilly will be three and a half and Zoe nearly five, so we know they are going to be excited. When Steven was a boy I did lots of cooking and never missed making a Christmas cake, the last few years the cake has come from Tesco (or Marks if I was feeling particularly flush). I’m determined to make one this year and really need to be getting on with it. I made a Lemon Drizzle cake yesterday, and it’s delicious if I do say so myself!
I must away it’s my Pilates class this morning – I thought I was going to feel like a lady of leisure but nothing could be further from the truth. xx

    1. Hi Shashi, Yvonne shares lots of photos of Nala on her blog, and I’ve been longing to do the same. This post gave me the excuse I needed.
I’m glad you enjoyed the poems, and I know John will be happy to read your comment.
I had to do something about the shelves it was really depressing looking at big empty spaces. I'm sure they will gradually fill with more books but for now the boxes look fine. Barbara xx

  14. Hi human, Barbara,

Wow, I sure can relate to that pawetry. When it comes to computers, my only pawblem is that it gets kinda difficult to type on the peeboard, um, keyboard. Kinda' like you typing with mittens on :)

Spell check tipo, um typo type pawetry was real fun and I can sure understand that one. Arf and here to the March of Time Books, my lovely human friend.

    Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses,

    Penny xx

    1. Hi Penny,
I’m sure I would find it impossible to type with mittens on which explains why you are an Internet superstar, and I’m not!

Thank you for the wishes and doggy kisses, I send the same back to you and to Gary of course.

  15. So many things to aah over in this post, Barbara ~ the kitty, first of all, and your Enid Blyton collection, and those pretty boxes. I understand your cousin John's pain. I've had computers quit before but I'm glad things have been fixed now and he's back with his resurrected friend. (For me, I remember often being quite vicious when my computers stopped working. I never treated them like friends, unfortunately. Should, shouldn't I?) And last, eye deed anjoied WillLee's leetle ditty pouhm. Vari maj eye deed. Happy weekends, everyone!
