More on Enid Blyton and The Ginger Pop Shop

Further to last weeks post about Enid Blyton did anyone see Matt Baker and the Country File team on their visit to the Isle of Purbeck? I missed it completely!

Matt Baker, together with three local children and a dog called Taz played the parts of the Famous Five characters Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog. The five took a trip on a steam train to Corfe Castle station before exploring the picturesque village. The area around Corfe was home to Enid Blyton for many years, and the programme was made to mark the 70th anniversary of the ‘Famous Five’ books.

Reading about the Country File programme reminded me that the Famous Five adventure trail is taking place until the 5th November 2012. The trail is set around places that Enid Blyton knew well including Corfe Castle, the Swanage Railway and the Victorian Pier in Swanage. In keeping with the late author's books, fans follow six clues to solve a mystery.  Read more at  The Ginger Pop Shops website

We spent a lovely family day at Corfe last year you can read about it here; Five on Kirrin Island again or a day at Corfe Castle

  2. Can't wait to see the new site, but I hope it still has some of the lovely illustrations you have on your sidebar here.
Yes, we knew the sun was out and it was warmer because all the weather forcasters here keep us abreast of England's weather a la the Olympics.

  4. I always find the timing of some things amazing - you did a post on Enid Blyton and then there is a complimentary TV show - sometimes it is as if everything is connected with invisible threads. I'd love to go on the FF adventure trail - sounds like loads of fun. Looking forward to seeing the new site. You seem to have the same effect on the weather that I do - decide to do something inside and guaranteed the sun will shine!

  6. How fun that there is a trail to go along with the books. I love things like that and it makes me want to read her books even more. I would love to follow a trail that goes with a book.

Hope all is going well with the new website. Things like that always take more time than expected- but the updated site will be well worth the work. Can't wait to see it!

Hi Alex, yes I’m busy adding illustrations to all the books – it does take some time though, so please watch this space!
I hope you are enjoying the Olympics. We are watching as much of it as we can on TV, and will be going for a visit on the last Friday. We want to see the Olympic village and feel part of it, if only for a day.

I’m hoping to go along and have a go at solving the clues. It would also be nice to get some 'photos for the blog.
I know, the first really nice weather we get, and we manage to miss it! Still it will be worth it once the site is up and running. Have you managed to spend any time in the sun?

Hi Jess, the trail is a great way to encourage people to read her books and get some exercise at the same! Following the clues should be a lot of fun.
I would love to know what you think of the site once it’s up and running, a bit of a way to go yet, but we are getting there. Thanks for your good wishes.

Hi Darlene, How lucky are you? Perhaps I could borrow your brother for a little while? Terry (my husband) is much better at these things than I am, so we are muddling along together! It sounds as though we are doing wonderfully inventive things, but that’s not really the case. The basis of the site was set up for us, now we just have to make it do what we want it to do.

Hello Donna, This revamping has taken a lot longer than anticipated; I sometimes wonder why I started it! I hope you are feeling much better now and are managing to catch up with everything. Thanks for calling in, I appreciate it.

  17. Not nearly as much as I would have hoped to. It has an annoying tendency of shining beautifully when I am at work and then disappearing during the weekends when I am at home!

  18. I pictured the pain of revamping and cataloging and everything ... and winced for you a bit. But on the bright side (now that the sun's out ... ), you'll have a new site up soon! Looking forward to it, Barbara. And thanks for the update on Famous Five.

Want to share this with you cos you're just about my only Brit friend: I've been obsessed with a Brit drama, Sherlock. He is brilliant. And funny. And occasionally rude. And always so much fun and wit!

Hi Claudine, Oh the pain! It will be worth it though, the new site should be much quicker and easier to use (well that’s the plan!)

I think Sherlock is fabulous! Terry, on the other hand, can’t stand it (he likes more action less drama) so I missed quite a few episodes. Thank you for including me in your friends – I feel very special being the only Brit.

  20. Looking foward to seeing your new site - nothing like a makeover.
I'm betting it will be just as pretty as your blog.

It’s not quite ready to go public yet, but it won’t be long. I'm not sure it will be as pretty as the blog, but so long as it works well I will be happy.
