Thanks to Steve for letting me share this and to everyone who takes the time to watch.

Final flight of the DJI Phantom 3
Keeping in touch with family is always important and never more so than when they live on the opposite side of the world. With that in mind our son in Adelaide made this video of him and his two little daughters in the park. Just so you know who is who Lilly is on the swing while Zoe is running around. You may be wondering why this is the final flight. If so there is a simple explanation. Just as Steve was finishing filming his drone, camera and all smashed to the ground! Some might say good job, but we would have to disagree. It was a sad day for Steve and for us, but it makes this film all the more precious.

Loved your little video, and I can imagine how sad you were that the drone crashed. Hope you will soon be able to get a new one! It's so important to keep in touch with loved ones far away. Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie, it made us very sad because Steve had been having so much fun with it, and of course we benefited too! Have a lovely week.
DeleteWow! Goodness! I can imagine you and Terry,
ReplyDelete'welling' up not only the first time, of
watching it...but, every time since!
Have to confess, it certainly moved me, as
l've said so many times before...Family are
the most important thing in life..bar none!
And! Hey! A drone and the camera can be replaced!
Brilliant video..loved it...! :).
Hi Willie, you are not wrong! I find myself watching it on ‘repeat’ and it certainly makes the family feel closer. We are looking forward to checking out that park next year. One of those swings has my name on it!
DeleteBit of a Swinger Eh! :).

That’s for me to know … :)
DeleteLove the jungle book, especially that song. You know what I will be singing for the rest of the day now.
Aww, it's a shame the done crashed. The film is lovely though and, as you said, even more precious.
ReplyDeleteIt was a shame Anca, but a lovely film none the less. Thanks for watching.
DeleteOh Barbara, I've never seen the results of a drone filming, and what ease and grace these gadgets produce! Very lovely, just like a movie!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don’t think they are all that easy to operate, but they do produce some amazing films. Thanks for coming over and taking a look, have a lovely week.
DeleteOh Dear..... Proof reader missed this one. Second line should be our or my not out He He He He
ReplyDeleteThanks hubby but trust you to spot it after publication can I have my proof reader fee back please? ;-)
DeleteHi dear Barbra!
ReplyDeleteI can feel that how sad you must have felt about this but let's be positive though it was a loss for you and Steve but thank God it was just a camera drone that fell.may God keep your family away from any kind of harm .I am sure your son will be able to recreate it soon my friend.
His talent in filming is outstanding.
Truly enjoyed his flight which for sure is not last
You are absolutely right Baili. Material things can always be replaced.
DeleteMany thanks for your comment.
Bummer it crashed! (That would've been wild to film.) Hope he can get it fixed or get a new one.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame he couldn’t catch the actual crash on film, but I don’t suppose he would have wanted to watch it again.
Delete:-(
It’s beyond fixing I’m afraid, but it might be replaced when his funds allow.
Sorry about the crash, but you had some precious moments captured before the disaster.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, we did Lee and we can watch them over and over again (which we do!)
DeleteFree entertainment!
DeleteYou can’t ask for more than that. :)
DeleteI love the video, Barbara! Sad about the crash. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWe are very proud of our son and his children and like to boast about them at any given opportunity! :-)
DeleteWonderful film! Zoe and Lilly are adorable. I would love to swing in that beautiful park... I hope your son gets another flying camera soon. They live in such a beautiful place! Thank you for sharing, Dear Barbara!
ReplyDeleteI get some very odd looks these days, but I still can’t resist swings. How did I know you would be just the same? Thanks for looking at the film, I’m happy to know you enjoyed it.
DeleteIsn't technology wonderful? Sorry the drone crashed:(
ReplyDeleteThe film was wondrous.
Technology really is wonderful but I sometimes think it’s moving too fast for me to keep up. Drones were something out of Science Fiction when I was growing up now they are a reality.
DeleteRight there with ya.
DeleteYOU, have a great one.
DeleteThanks Sandra, you too.
DeleteWhat a great little video! Perfect when you are so far away. Will you be going for a visit soon?
ReplyDeleteWe’ve got a visit planned for 2018, saving hard at the moment to make sure our dream becomes reality.
DeleteWow. Steve is a skilled editor. A truly precious film - for all of you.
ReplyDeleteI think so too, but I didn’t like to boast. :)
DeleteWhat a lovely video. I'm impressed with how steady the filming was. I don't dare show it to my husband or he'll rush out and get a drone.
ReplyDeleteThe music was so sweet with the little girls. You'll watch this video for many years to come and it will be more precious each year!
Hello Sharon, I know exactly what you mean – it’s a ‘boy toy', and that’s for sure!
DeleteI’ve watched it so many times I almost know it off by heart, but it's still not often enough.
Oh, wow, what a great film! I love having a bird's eye view of an area of Australia I'm sure I'll never visit in real life; fun to see what the houses look like there, too. Steve did a great job filming and your granddaughters are as cute as ever. Thanks for sharing this little bit of their day with us. Sounds like drones should come with insurance of some sort. :(
ReplyDeleteHi Marcia, I’m surprised these things don’t come with insurance, or perhaps they do and Steve didn’t take it out. I must ask him next time we speak.
DeleteI’m looking forward to trying out one of those swings next year and to take a walk around the park.
Ah, such precious memories.
ReplyDeleteI can remember the sorrow I felt when the cine camera along with the reels of images of my childhood could no longer be fixed. Of course technology means such things could now be transferred to DVD.
That is such a shame Tracy, I wonder if they could not be recovered somehow? If you still have them that is.
DeleteOh how sad that it crashed, nevertheless he got a brilliant video done which will be cherished by the family I am sure.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame Shashi, but maybe Steve will have another drone one day, and in the meantime we can all enjoy this film.
DeleteWhat a video! I can't get over how clear and smooth it is. Such beautiful views and all of it was done really well. So sorry to hear that the video ended with a crash. :(
ReplyDeleteWe agree with you Stephanie, but then we would because Steve is our son, and we love him. :)
DeleteThought Steve might like this.....
ReplyDeleteThree Alternative Names for Drones....
Unmanned Aerial System (UAS)
Take an aircraft, add a radio connection or maybe a network and a human to control it using a remote. This is probably the phrase that is most commonly used by industry groups.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)
This term became commonplace thanks to the Department of Defense who offers this drone definition as “powered aerial vehicles sustained in flight by aerodynamic lift over most of their flight path and guided without an on board crew…and can fly autonomously or piloted remotely.”
This definition seems to be on the way out for non-military use.
Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) or Vehicle (RPV)
Military drones Predator or Global Hawk are often referred to as RPA. Typically used to be replacement vehicles to carry out search and rescue missions or missile strikes, without the human pilot present.
Thanks Willie, I’m sure he will enjoy those! :)
DeleteHi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteIs he going to get a new drone?
I'm behind the times. I didn't even realize drones like this were on the market for the public sector.
Funds are a little low at the moment Sandra, but I expect he will replace it in due course. I must admit I didn’t know either, but it turns out anyone can buy one if they have a few hundred pounds to spare.
DeleteOh Barbara - this was delightful. Sad to read that your son's drone got smashed. Hopefully he will be able to get a new one soon. So glad you shared your grandchildren - take care and have a great day. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteHello Debbie, thanks for your sweet comment. We are mightily proud of our little granddaughters (and our grandsons) and always happy to share pics/videos of them.
DeleteI loved watching this Barbara. Such special memories are provided by photographs, cameras and videos.
ReplyDeleteI hope in time that it can be replaced, but they are probably quite expensive.
Thanks again for sharing this with your blogging friends.
All the best Jan
It’s so nice to know you enjoyed it Jan, thanks for taking the time to watch. Hugs Barbara
DeleteI love this film!! Priceless!!! Very sad the drone crashed. Take Care!
ReplyDeleteWe love it too! Thanks for watching and have a happy weekend
DeleteLoved the video, but drones, like Brians r c planes r very hard to handle so Steve did very well. xxxx
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried flying them Sue? I’m sure Brian would let you – or maybe not. :)
DeleteWhat a shame that the drone broke. The film is lovely and must mean so much to you with the family being so far away. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteIt’s very precious to us Sarah, especially as we only see the family every two years or so. Having said that we are going for a visit next year, and we are starting to get very excited.
Deleteoh dear, I'm sorry Steve's drone and camera smashed! Hope he gets a replacement soon. That's a great family video. The song was perfect. What a nice day out for the girls and their dad.
ReplyDeleteI'm a total swing girl - like Lilly. My younger niece, Taylor, is more like Zoe. Can't stop running around, attempting flips and all!
Dear Barbara, you and Terry hang in there. You'll be able to visit and play with them soon!
Hello Claudine, I’m just like you and Lilly – if I see a swing I instantly want to get on it! We are planning a trip to Australia next year so not too long to wait. The girls will have changed a lot since we last saw them. We can’t wait to spend time with them and hear about all they’ve been doing. Would you believe Lilly starts school next year? I don’t know where the time is going.
DeleteI hope life is being good to you Claudine and to all those you love.
Life is good, Barbara. Thank you so much! Oh my, she is starting school next year? I think she'll enjoy it. Starting school is exciting for most children (though the first couple of weeks might include a few tear-storms ... depending on the child ... okay fingers crossed!).
DeleteThat is lovely to hear Claudine!
DeleteWe are hoping Lilly will be OK, especially as her big sister is already in the same school. She is certainly ready to learn and raring to go – so fingers crossed indeed! xx
Very nice post. I definitely love this website.
ReplyDeleteStick with it!
