Advent Calendar Day 23: Nativity

I’ve always loved school nativities and never more so than when our son and later his sons were in them. I don’t think our little granddaughters in Australia have taken part yet, but I’m sure it can only be a matter of time. It’s a lovely tradition and one I hope will continue long into the future.

      There must have been lots of mums, dads, nannies and granddads shedding a few silent tears at this year’s school nativities. I can never watch one without crying! :-) xx

    I simply adore the recreation of the Nativity, whoever tries it. The baby Jesus is either represented by a sweet little person or a plastic doll! HAHAHAHAHAH And either one is endearing and I just wonder if our heavenly king smiles upon us....happy Christmas dearest Barbara!

    Wonderful photo to celebrate today's calendar. Your grandson is adorable. I know how proud you are of him and all the times you sat through the nativity presentation with your children and grandchildren.

    This brought back memories of when I participated. But most of all, I remember the first time I saw a Nativity was at our church. I was 5 and as the shepherds walked down the aisle, I pointed to my next door neighbor and said rather loudly, "Why is Les in his bathrobe?" I think my grandparents (who raised me from birth) wanted to crawl in a hole and hide. Out of the mouths of babes!

      That is such a lovely memory, and I’m quite sure your grandparents thought it was the cutest thing ever! Terry and I still chuckle about all the things our son and grandsons said or did when they were younger. It’s so nice to have those memories.

    Beautiful memories.
    I don't remember a nativity recreation in our largely secular society. Not ever.

      My memories go way back (almost 70 years!) and I can still remember being in a nativity play when I was about five years old. Lovely memories which may be a little different from yours, but I’m quite sure yours are equally lovely. x

    These nativity scenes are so cute. I remember as a Sunday School teacher trying to organize them. It was never easy!!

      I loved Sunday school it was always my favourite day of the week, especially around Christmas time. I remember all of my teachers, so there must be lots of children who remember you too. :-)

    Hi Barbara,

    Awe bless and how wonderful to see that photo. You've brought a memory of my son in the Nativity play. He was a shepherd and he spent a lot of the time hurling a toy sheep up in the air! :)

    So precious! One of my earliest memories, is being in a school Nativity scene.
