Advent Calendar Day 20: Wrapped Present(s)

Don’t you just love this image from the front cover of Our Darlings a children’s annual published in the 1920s?  It makes me smile because the presents are not so much wrapped as unwrapped. I wonder if Santa was in a hurry that year or just running out of time.

I'm linking with Julie over at Julie's Scrapbook.  More from my Advent Calendar tomorrow.

  1. That's a lovely picture. Most old pictures of Santa, some presents are wrapped and some are not. Perhaps he only wraps the easy to do ones

    1. Perhaps he does and I don't blame him when you consider how many he has to do. :) xxx

  3. Wow, talk about nostalgia. This book cover is awesome. Perhaps Santa was being inundated before he could wrap the gifts.

I'm definitely going to be saddened when these advent doors close for good this year.

  4. I remember i used to wrap prezzies, so they
looked a different shape than what was inside!
I'd even wrap an empty box...! :).
Many moons ago..mia Mama she bought two china
ladies..in the all together, only three inches
high, one for my Dad and one for a friend..Joseph!
Well..they were packed in layer after layer of
paper, until the final box was two foot on each
    side...! :). Goodness! What performance...Paper
ALL over the place...! AND..l still have my Dad's
figurine to this day, though greatly repaired over
    the years...! :).

    Right..More Jokes...!
    'My wife's an angel'.
'Your lucky, mine is still alive'...

Romeo: What would it take to make you kiss
    me under the mistletoe?
    Juliette: An anaesthetic....

What do lions sing at Christmas?
    Jungle bells!

When is a boat like a pile of snow?
    When it's adrift...!
    (best l can do to~day)....!
    So..if it's cold out...don't forget to 'wrap'
    up warm...! :0).

    1. Bless your mia Mama that must have caused a lot of hilarity. It’s lovely that you have kept your dad’s figurine. I've got a few bits and pieces that belonged to my mum and dad and a couple of things from my granny.

Love the jokes Willie! Sorry for late reply I’ve been out and about today. xx

  5. Speaking of the 20s, I love that era of American home architecture, of women's styles, and just the simple and "innocent" art of childrens books. Happy Christmas my friend!

    1. Hi Stephanie, I think the unwrapped presents add something to the picture. It's nice to see what the children will be getting.

I hope you have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful 2018. Barbara x

  11. Hi Barbara,

That cover certainly resonates with a 1920's feel about it. He was running out of time because the reindeer's were a bit slower back then.

  12. We always had wrapped gifts under the tree but on Christmas morning we woke up to unwrapped gifts from Santa. Mom always said Santa didn't have time to wrap all those gifts. I kept that tradition with my own children. I hope Santa is good to you, Barbara and you have a wonderful Christmas!!

    1. What a wonderful idea, I wish I had thought of that when my son was small. Thanks for you Christmas wishes Darlene; I wish the same for you. There are lots of wishes in my reply, but it’s OK it’s Christmas and we can all wish for anything!!

  13. I think in all the old stories and versions of The Night Before Christmas, there are always unwrapped toys in his sack. This is how I did it until my children were a little bit older, just like when I was a kid. Your posts have inspired me so much, I ended up doing one more of my own. :)

    1. I’ve just been reading your post Marcia. It's beautiful. I’ve not found the four differences yet, but I’m not giving up!
You are the second person to mention leaving presents unwrapped I didn't do that when Steven was small but I think it's a lovely idea.
